Editing Price Fields
You can use Ablestar Bulk Product Editor to modify price fields in bulk. The price field determines how much a specific product variant will cost in your default location before shipping, discounts, and taxes are applied.
Choose if you prefer the 'In-App Edit' or 'Spreadsheet' method:

Ways to Change the Price
You have several ways to change the price, either by percentages, fixed amounts or based on other fields:
- Decrease by percent: Decreases the price by the percentage you enter
- Increase by percent: Increases the price by the percentage you enter
- Change by fixed amount: Change the price by a positive or negative number
- Set to fixed value: Sets the price to the specified number
- Set to lowest price from last x days: Most often used to manage the European Pricing Indication Directive
- Set as percent of Compare-at Price field: Sets the price as a positive or negative percentage of the compare-at price. If the compare-at price is empty for a variant it will be skipped
- Set as percent of Cost field: Sets the price as a positive or negative percentage of cost. If the cost is empty for a variant it will be skipped
- Change by percentage: Changes the price by a positive or negative percentage
Rounding
The 'Rounding' dropdown gives you several different ways to round your prices:
Round decimals: If you enter a value like 99 the decimal portion of the price will get set to that number.
If you enter a value less than 50 the value of the decimal will be rounded to the nearest increment of that value.
- Round whole number: The price will be rounded, up or down, to the nearest increment of the value.
- Round whole number up: The price will be rounded up to the nearest increment of the value
The following table lists some examples for different rounding options:
Rounding Type | Value You Enter | Original Price | New Price |
---|---|---|---|
Round decimals | 95 | $12.36 | $12.95 |
Round decimals | 20 | $12.36 | $12.40 |
Round whole number | 1 | $12.36 | $12.00 |
Round whole number | 10 | $12.36 | $10.00 |
Round whole number up | 1 | $12.36 | $13.00 |
Round whole number up | 10 | $12.36 | $20.00 |
Also Modifying the Compare-at Price
When you edit the 'Price' field you can modify the 'Compare-at Price' field by clicking on the Modifications to Compare-at price. You can set the compare-at price in the following ways:
- Set the Compare-at price to the current price. You can use this to create sales if you decrease the price value by 10% and set the compare-at price to hold the original value of the price
- Set the compare-at price to a fixed value, for example $10
You can use the rounding and compare-at price changes together to quickly run sales.
2. Spreadsheet Edits
- Text around the numbers, like currency names or symbols, are removed
- The comma is treated as a thousands separator
- The period is interpreted as the decimal separator
Please contact us if you are having difficulties with the app extracting the correct number for a price.
✅ Tips and Troubleshooting
- The 'Price' field is the amount that the product variant is selling for. If the compare-at price is greater than the price, it implies that the product is on sale. If a product is on sale most themes will show the compare-at price with a line through it.
- Shopify does not accept negative values for a price. You can use discounts instead to reduce the price of an order.
- If you edit the prices with Ablestar Bulk Product Editor but they suddenly switch back, it's likely that another app is automatically resetting the prices.
- The way the prices are displayed on your store's website depend on your theme and currency settings
- You can use Shopify Markets to display different prices for different regions.
- If your primary market is outside of the European Union (EU), the compare-at price might not display for visitors inside the EU. You can change this setting in the Shopify admin.
