How to Avoid Excel Scientific Notation Format
You can use Ablestar Bulk Product Editor to modify product or variant IDs, barcodes, ISBN, UPC and GTIN numbers using the spreadsheet method for bulk editing.
The problem is, Excel spreadsheets can become problematic when using numbers greater than 12 digits. Fields will automatically convert long UPC or GTIN numbers to a scientific notation format on export.
A 12-digit GTIN "879860004073" might convert to this format 8.7986E+11
which can cause some major issues with your store data.
Solution: Change the Column Number Format
The quick demo below can guide you on re-formatting your data:
Once the spreadsheet is open:
- Right click on the column header and select 'Format → cells' from the ribbon toolbar
- When the modal appears, choose the 'Number' format
- Set decimal places to "0"
- Click OK to save
✅ Tips and Troubleshooting
- Get started editing barcodes, UPC and other GTINS in bulk
- Always specify identifier data in the first column for spreadsheets
