How to Create Automated Recurring Product Rules

You can use Ablestar Bulk Product Editor to create a custom Product Rule that triggers automatically on product creation. In this example, we will create a Product Rule to hide all out of stock products on creation.

This feature is available on the Advanced and Professional plans.

From the dashboard view, select 'Automations' and then Product rules:

From the 'Product Rules' view you have two options:

▪️Option 1: Create Rule: create a custom product rule by clicking the Create rule button.

▪️Option 2: View templates: choose from any of the pre-configured templates to run each time you create or add new products:

  • Add tag to on-sale products: helpful in case you need to find on sale products later to end the sale or revise the price once the promo is finished
  • Hide out of stock products: this option ensures you will not have visible products with zero inventory
  • Include vendor name in the SEO: improve your SEO by including the vendor title each time you create a new product
  • Set products with a price of 0.00 to draft: ensure your published products always include a price

Product Modifications

Once you are on the 'Create' view for either templates or new rules, specify fields as needed:

  • Title: add a descriptive title
  • Status: select 'Active' or 'Paused' as needed
  • Run Rule: (To avoid multiple unexpected changes every time you edit a product, choose 'Run rule: When a product is created'):
    • When a product is created: ensures the rule only runs one time on the initial creation
    • When a product is updated or created: ensures the rule runs on every product edit or update

Before saving any new rule, the app will check whether an existing (and potentially conflicting) edit is already running for that automation.

Add Modifications

You must add at least one modification before saving the rule. Click the Add modification button to add additional rules. Add additional modifications as needed:

Optional: Negative Modifications

You also have the option to apply negative rules, to ensure products that include inventory always are marked 'Active':
